SYSCO Thursday Evening Summer Series, Race 4, June 27, 2013

Short race this evening. The course was "T", Start-1-3-finish. The start/finish lines were off the wing dam east of Tomahawk Island. The 1 mark was off the west entrance to Tomahawk Bay Marina. The number 3 mark was off McCuddy's. The wind was light from the west. It was really shifty. We started on starboard tack, but went to port after crossing the line. We tacked to starboard when we got to the middle of the dredged channel, or about when the mark was abeam. We managed to get to the windward mark first or second. We put up the pole to starboard. Thus gaining starboard advantage and ran straight down wind, up river. I did not want to get too close to Tomahawk Island due to the very light water near it. So we passed close to the committee boat. We were jokeying with Trigger all the way. I even let Trigger have enough room to pass the committee boat on the start line side. This was a tactical error, but the right thing to do. We were in the lead of our fleet at that time. From the committee boat to the 3 mark, Trigger did his best to blanket us. Which made us loose ground to the rest of the fleet. By the time we got to the 3 mark, there were about 30 boats all trying to round about the same time. One boat got hung up with the mark. I saw a few contacts, but Aventura made it through all the traffic without touching another boat. We went directly to starboard close hauled and made the finish mark. I did not get a track of this race. Sorry, no pictures.
